Sanyukta Shrestha's Covid-19 Response

Sustainable bridal designer Sanyukta Shrestha makes masks and visors, as well creating a special bridal package for key workers helping in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inspired by the selfless dedication towards safety of people’s lives, the award-winning designer is taking an initiative to be part of the fight towards Coronavirus by contributing her skills to help protect those who need it. She has also created a special keyworker bridal package to treat all the brave couples when these gloomy days are over.

“By staying home, we are saving lives. As civilians we are doing our parts diligently, but we feel strongly that we need to use our skills to help frontline doctors and key workers who are risking their lives to save us in this much needed time. It has been nearly 2 weeks, working on PPE gowns prototypes and making hundreds of masks so we contribute our skills during this Pandemic. It has not been easy sourcing material during this lockdown however along with our patternmaker & seamstresses we have tried our best to take our own initiative to give back to these brave warriors by using our limited resources. It's not the N95 masks but we are designing and making masks as per CDC guidelines while locked down at home and giving to much needed keyworkers. We are committed to continue this as much as our capacity allows’’

Putting fashion to the service of the greater good, Sanyukta alongside a small team, have been creating reusable masks with 3 layers of 100% breathable cotton fabrics, and some have the option to add an extra layer of filter protection, detachable visor and nose grips. Masks have been handmade as per CDC guidelines and with the help of recognised doctor’s tutorials. CDC guidance says healthcare workers can use homemade masks and even bandanas as “a last resort.” They believe their masks are a more protective than other homemade masks with these added features.

“NHS, emergency services and all key workers throughout the country are even more stretched than usual due this pandemic. They are selflessly and tirelessly working to keep us safe, healthy, and supported. We feel it’s time we must value our armies even more. It’s a small way to give back these brave workers and it's our way of saying ‘thank you’ for their dedication”
